0.3 - Interactions, Explosions and QoL


Update time! I felt like I had added enough stuff since the previous version to warrant a new release. There's not much of a consistent theme to this one, just more progress towards a finished game.

Full patch notes:

Additions

  • Added a profiler, can be triggered by pressing f4
  • Added ladders
  • Added cobblestone
  • Added flowers: rose, daffodil & dandelion
  • Added throwable sticks of dynamite
  • Added packed dynamite block that is triggered with a right click
  • Added fences, can turn any block into a fence by shift-clicking it with a hammer
  • Added a particle system
    • Smoke particles
    • Explosion particles
    • Fire trail particles
  • Added a control hints system, shows keybinds to relevant actions based on context
  • Added a setting to turn this system off if you don't like it
  • Added settings to control master volume, world volume and music volume
    • Can go beyond 100% if you'd like it louder than the default
  • Added auto scale UI toggle
  • Added manual UI scaling setting
  • Added armour sets for each tool tier (copper, iron, silver, gold)
  • Added an equipment screen to the inventory
  • Can equip armour in armour slots and "trinkets" in multipurpose slots
  • Items can provde "defence" values when equipped. Damage is calculated by 'dealt damage (defence 0.5)'
  • Swords now do melee damage, greater values per each tool tier
  • Can drop items from the hotbar by pressing Q, drop whole stack with CTRL + Q
  • Added translation keys for keybind names

Changes

  • World rendering is now 4-5x faster on average
    • Many more chunks are culled, & lots of small optimisations that add up
  • Logs now have a top and bottom texture
  • Can mine ores much faster
  • Sounds played in the world now attenuate properly
  • Unused data is automatically removed from blockbench model files, reducing size to 50%
  • Doors can now be placed in different directions based on the player's view angle
  • Can now place blocks that support it against walls (like ladders)
  • Gravity is a bit less strong
  • Added a 500ms pickup cooldown to items spawned in the world
  • Zombies now do 5 damage instead of 1, and 20 health instead of 10

Fixes

  • Fixed door uvs so the door looks normal
  • Fixed being able to walk off the edge of the world
  • Fixed oak logs having broken texture
  • Fixed slightly clipping through blocks when walking into them at certain angles
  • Fixed text alignment on buttons that are smaller than usual vertically
  • Fixed "Apply" button not working in the settings menu
  • Can no longer heal past maximum health
  • Bandaid fix for logs rendering incorrectly when next to blocks
  • Fixed clouds not moving after 0.2
  • Fixed world and player not being reset when exiting to menu, causing a lot of small visual bugs
  • Fixed noclip's jank, it now ignores all external forces, and uses velocity with damping for movement
  • Fixed random seed button not working
  • Fixed bug with crafting when there were multiple stacks of an ingredient present
